We utilizes current evidence-based practice to promote the health and well-being of children, adolescents, adults, and families in our community.
School-Based Prevention
Why Early Prevention MattersPrevention isn’t just powerful—it’s cost-effective. Research shows that for every dollar invested in school-based substance abuse prevention programs, up to $18 can be saved in future costs related to substance use disorders. But effectiveness depends on quality: while 80% of youth in the U.S. participate in school-based prevention programs, only 20% are exposed to programs that are truly evidence-based.
The Recovery Center has proudly served every school district in Fairfield County. We deliver a wide range of evidence-based prevention curriculums designed to support youth in making healthy choices. These programs are offered directly in classrooms or in small group settings within school districts, ensuring accessibility and relevance to students' everyday lives. Some these programs include:
- Botvin Life Skills Training (LST): A proven curriculum that helps youth develop confidence, decision-making skills, and resistance to peer pressure.
- Catch My Breath - A youth vaping prevention program that empowers students with knowledge and skills to resist e-cigarettes.
- Project Alert - Classroom lessons for middle school students that focus on resisting peer pressure and avoiding substance use.
- Red Flags - A prevention program that teaches middle school students how to recognize and respond to signs of depression or stress.
- Reconnecting Youth - A school-based program for at-risk teens that builds resiliency, coping skills, and positive peer support.
